Let There Be Light

Audio-Visual Chart Interpretation Sample: Marilyn Monroe

Neptune

When Neptune is in the first house of a natal chart, there is often an identity problem. Marilyn presented so many different faces to the world that when she got older she did not always know who she truly was.

Even though Marilyn had her Gemini Sun sign in the 10th  house of Capricorn, which made her very smart, serious and ambitious, she capitalized on the Neptunian illusion and false persona instead, because she learned early in life that she could get what she wanted so much easier if she presented a sexy, sultry, soft talking image to the world. It was easier for Marilyn to hide her real self behind her Neptune in the first house of self.

Since Neptune rules film, movies, masquerade and deception, Marilyn found her niche early in life. She found it easy to pretend to be someone she wasn’t. She could put on any mask she wanted and she felt more comfortable doing this than being her real self, which was quite serious with her natal Sun in the 10th.

Few in the world ever knew the real Marilyn. Her fame and her natal planet Neptune in the first house helped put her up on a public adoring pedestal that she would one day come to loathe.

Her fans and the world paid no attention to what lay hidden behind the mask. They were content with what they saw (Moon in the 7th house of public, opposed her Neptune in the 1st house of self, indicating her fans saw the Neptune mask and never delved any deeper than the illusion).

Marilyn wasn’t satisfied with her image, but when she tried to change it through different film roles that were more serious like Bus Stop, it didn’t work and she would revert back to the sex kitten image in movies like Gentlemen Prefer Blonds and Some Like It Hot.

The Neptune illusion began to crumble when Marilyn was just beginning to turn 30 (a Saturn return happens around age 28-30. It is considered a growing up cycle).

Neptune in the first house of her natal chart indicated identity problems and feelings of insecurity and she did not know how to fix it. Confused about who she was and who she felt she was suppose to be, from early on she donned a false portrayal of her true identity-- a forever mask that made her a prisoner.

The Neptune portrayal that helped bring Marilyn the stardom she always wanted began to dissolve when she could no longer control her prescribed drug and alcohol problems.

Pills and booze are both Neptunian negative addictions that once helped hide her inner and private torment from the world. Even at the end of her young life, her public did not understand her the who the real Marilyn was.

Her adoring public began to turn away from her like a spurned lover. She had no place to hide her vulnerability from her critical public. Therefore, with the help of alcohol and headlines, she plunged deeper and deeper into the make believe world of Neptune laced with drugs and alcohol.

Neptune in the first house was a powerful placement for Marilyn. You could almost say it was not only what made her famous, but also what did her in.
