Tenth House

The 10^th house in a flat chart is the house of Capricorn.

Marilyn was a Gemini and her Gemini Sun was placed in the 10th house or Midheaven. The 10th house is how the whole world sees us. It is our worldly status, popularity and fame in the world.

The Sun in the 10th made her extremely ambitious, practical and down to earth very early in life. Her Sun in the 10th was what made her more grounded and focused. This is where she preferred to be, rather than in the 4th house with lonely Saturn.

She wanted to be her own boss and someone with authority. She demanded respect for her business talents, but again, this was the Marilyn the world would never see, because it was counter to her public image. 

She not only had business savvy, she was also an intellect. With Mercury in Gemini and conjunct her Sun in Gemini, she was without a doubt so much smarter than the world ever knew. Only those she worked for would know how shrewd a business person she really was with her Natal Sun and Mercury in Gemini in the 10th house of career and business.  

Her Gemini Sun and Mercury in the 10th needed to communicate to the world and voice her opinions, but the sensors and the legalities of her time limited her. She obeyed the rules, because her Sun and Mercury have Capricorn overtones and Capricorn is responsible and it generally follows the rules. But she really wanted to be the boss. 

With her Sun and Mercury in the 10th, she liked being with the men in the board room, not because she wanted to play “Barbie” to “Ken.” 

She liked the business world, the power it yielded and the wheeling and dealing was like an adrenaline rush for her Venus in Aries in the 9th house, ruler of her 10th house of career. Coupled with her Sun and Mercury in the 10th, make no mistake,  she was a very serious, ambitious, business person.  

There were the qualities that gave her a bad rap with the bosses in charge of her movie contracts. 

Her publicists kept her serious nature out of the public eye in order to let the world think she was a “dumb blond,” which was an act and she was definitely not dumb according to her Sun and Mercury in Gemini placement in the 10th house.

Once the public bought into her Neptunian persona early on in her career, she could never allow the real Marilyn to be seen in public, which would hurt her career image if people saw her ambitious business personality or her very bazaar, serious mood swings.  

She wanted to be her own boss, own her own company and be in charge of her career. At the time when she was coming up the ranks, it was, unfortunately, still a man’s world and Marilyn may have had to endure a lot of male ego at her own expense. 

With Mercury positioned in front of her Sun  (combust) in the 10th, she wasn’t always objective when it came to herself. She gave herself too much credit for the wrong things and not enough credit for the right things.  

Her Gemini, Saturnian, qualities, caused her to argue over words. If she felt they weren’t right for her in a script, she demanded they be changed, but her inability to be objective when her ego became involved, probably caused her to make a lot of mistakes over usage of words in scripts or how things should be written or expressed. 

Marilyn’s Midheaven or 10th house is in the sign of Taurus and the ruling planet is Venus, which is positioned in the 9th house. With Venus in the 12th of the 10th, this indicates her father was absent or gone in her early childhood, possibly her infancy, but his absence had a lifetime affect on her regarding love and the men she married and the lovers she desired and became involved with.
