On Transiting Uranus

Transiting Uranus enters the sign of Pisces on March 11, 2003. It leaves Pisces March 12, 2011 and enters the sign of Aries. The last time transiting Uranus entered the sign of Aries was around January 1928.

Transiting Uranus into Pisces will probably open with a big splash (Tsunami, Dec 2004) of some sort or another, but it won't visit us for long, because in September 2003 transiting Uranus will retrograde back into the sign of Aquarius where it has been for the last seven years, where I'm sure it was creating a lot of change or havoc for most Aquarians. Then on December 31, 2003 Uranus will reenter the sign of Pisces and stay with us until March 12, 2011. 

This is a big "to-do" since it takes about 84 years for Uranus to leave and come back to the same zodiacal sign. The last time Uranus was in the sign of Pisces was during the Prohibition Era in the U.S.  Is there a correlation between the timing of this major transit and Prohibition or was it merely coincidence? Major transits such as this usually foretell of major events sure to manifest in some way or another. 

The sign of Pisces has rulership over many things including:  alcohol, drugs, film, art, music and psychic phenomena. Transiting Uranus entered Pisces on April 1, 1919. It then retrograded back into the sign of Aquarius around August 18, 1919 and did not reenter Pisces until January 23, 1920, right on time for Prohibition, which began at midnight on January 16, 1920. Pretty good timing, don't you think?

Before the Prohibition Era, Uranus transited the sign of Pisces around 1835. As you can see it takes around 84 years to travel the twelve signs of the zodiac in order to come back to a sign. I wonder what was happening in our world during that 7-year cycle, 1835-1842?

Uranus is the planet of sudden, unexpected, unusual and spontaneous action. You've heard of the "7 year itch"? Well, Uranus is the force that helped coin that phrase. Since we as humans have free will, it's not that planetary transits make us do anything, but studying the events of the last time Uranus was in the sign of Pisces can help set the stage to depict what we may experience when it once again arrives in this position.

I take the view that planets have personalities and with this in mind, let's see how the spontaneous, tradition breaking Uranus will break down the walls of rigidity and bring new bad and good things in our lives when it enters the sign of Pisces for the next seven-year cycle.

Revolution is often associated with the planet Uranus, while the sign of Pisces rules alcohol and drugs.  Expect new drug and alcohol fads to hit the streets. On the positive side of drug use, we may see some revolutionary new drugs to help in mental illness like schizophrenia, Alzheimer's disease and depression. New facilities to treat mentally ill patients are sorely needed and the rise in mental illness may begin to force a change in government policy as to how financial assistance is given to this group of people. 

HMO's may have to spend more on drug and alcohol rehabilitation as well as counseling and mental health care. There will be many more new drugs to treat the rise in depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, addictive behaviors and allergies. New disorders and disease may affect the brain making a lot of people feel like they are going "crazy"; or transiting Uranus in Pisces may merely put people more at risk of mental illness and various forms of hysteria. This won't apply just to people but to animals as well. 

Much of what I have just said has already taken place on some level, but these above areas will escalate with Uranus in the sign of Pisces for the next seven years. HMOs and health insurance will be in high focus in these next seven years. The US may even have to seriously consider a new type of universal health insurance, because the HMOs just aren't working for the doctors or for the patients. We will have to wait and see on this one. Pisces rules pets and animals, so maybe there will be a lot more focus on health insurance for our pets.

Pisces is a very psychic sign and in partnership with Uranus there will be more awareness of one's psychic ability. Everyone may begin to feel like a psychic conduit of some sort and if they aren't aware of what is happening to them they may feel like they are losing it - going "crazy".  Psychic ability will be heightened for everyone, but it is how one chooses to use it that will be the gift or the problem. 

More people will want to communicate with their dead loved ones via channelers and psychics than ever before. Government may want to recognize these professions as legitimate in order to gain some tax revenue. The public will want to read and hear more about psychic phenomena and UFOs more than ever before. There may even be more legitimate sightings of UFOs and psychic phenomena. Hypnotists, fortune-tellers and psychics will be in great demand. There may be more lawsuits against these professionals, which could cause a crusade for government regulations or licensing to be imposed on them. Whatever the case, expect more magic acts.

Expect some major chemical spills that will be disastrous to the environment and our waterways and costly to clean up. I know….this isn't new, but there is a more serious threat to human life. There are going to be some very new kinds of machinery to help people breathe better who have lung problems. There are going to be new inventions similar to a spacecraft to explore our ocean floors. There will be new ships and submarines launched that will be able to stay under the water forever. We may see new projects that build cities underwater to test how long humans can live under water without going crazy and what kind of crops we can grow. There is bound to be some chemical warfare erupting with the entrance of Uranus into the sign of Pisces. Polluted waterways and oceans will be in high focus because our drinking water will be unsafe and limited.

If people choose to avoid losing their minds due to the over emotionalism brought about by Uranus in Pisces they may decide to work on the positive side of this transit and turn their sensitive nature toward artistic endeavors like writing or reading poetry, classical literature, acting, film making, writing, theatre, dance, music, opera, painting or singing.  These areas could flourish with fresh genius and inventive minds in this seven-year cycle.  Some such notables born with Uranus in Pisces are:  Louis XVI, French Monarch (8/23/1754); Marie Antoinette, French Queen (11/2/1755); Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Austrian composer (1/27/1756); William Blake, poet, artist and mystic (11/28/1757); James Monroe, U.S. President (3/28/1758); J.P. Tchaikovsky, Russian composer (5/7/1840); Auguste Rodin, French sculptor (11/12/1840); Claude Monet, French impressionist painter (11/14/1840); Pierre Auguste Renoir, French impressionist painter (2/25/1841); William McKinley, U.S. President (1/29/1843); Ray Bradbury (8/22/1920); Judy Garland (6/10/22); Erroll Garner (6/15/23); Hank Williams (9/17/1923); Maria Callas (12/2/1923); Marlon Brando (4/3/1924); Henry Mancini (4/16/1924); Truman Capote (9/30/1924); Charlton Heston (10/4/1924); Paul Newman (1/26/1925); B.B. King (9/16/1925); Robert Kennedy (11/20/1925); Jerry Lewis (3/16/1926); Hugh Hefner (4/9/1926); Tony Bennett (8/3/1926); Sidney Poitier (2/20/1927) and Harry Belafonte (3/1/1927).  In looking at these names and dates did you notice that there were about 84 years between each new cycle of great artists and singers?

Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better, so we might lose the war on drugs, but win in the long run. Does this indicate marijuana might be legalized in the United States?  It appears the film industry has felt the effects of Uranus in Pisces because we have more musical films, which we haven't seen since the 1950's.

Transiting Uranus brings change, sometimes pleasant and sometimes upsetting.  The fixed signs are more likely to have resisted change when Uranus was transiting Aquarius (January 1996 to December 2003) and therefore they may have been faced with changes forced upon them.  Let's hope that Uranus in Pisces won't be as unmerciful for the sensitive Pisceans as it was for the Aquarians during these past seven years.

Pisces

The Sun-Sign that will be most affected by transiting Uranus into the sign of Pisces will be, of course, Pisces. Pisceans can begin to feel liberated or feel weird.  The choice is theirs, but for those closely tied to our dear Piscean loved ones, it may appear that our Piscean is going a bit "crazy" or "wacky", but fear not, it's only a rebellious stage. One minute they may act overly emotional and out of control and the next minute they may be cool as a cucumber and much more in control of their lives than ever before. Oh, but wait, don't they already do this?

 So, my dear Pisceans, you can expect this to be one of the strangest transits you will ever have to go through, but know you can make good and wise choices if you know the kind of transit you are about to enter.  For the next seven years make a supreme effort to keep yourself planted in reality at all times. Stick with the tried-and-true and don't fall for the new diet plan, the new religion, the new gadget, the new get-rich-quick plan; basically, try to stay away from the bizarre new anything. Unless you are absolutely sure that you want to buy and keep the new "whatever" forever, don't buy it, because you may regret it later; especially when the bill comes due.

With Uranus in Pisces you may have the strongest urge to do unusual things and to some degree this can be liberating, but make sure you keep your sanity about you, because Uranus in Pisces can be cloaked in danger or disappointment. Remain stable, reliable and realistic at all times and you will be able to turn this transit into a joyful ride into the unknown instead of a nightmare. Avoid negative people who may be involved in negative things like drugs, alcohol, scams and anti-social behavior. Avoid alcohol and drugs and be careful of developing an allergy overnight; especially to shellfish, perfumes, chemicals, furs, pets, flowers, paint, weeds and grass. Your senses will be acutely heightened so strong odors should be avoided.

Whatever the new bizarre situation that comes into your life, deal with it reasonably and don't go out of your way to avoid difficult people.  Realize they have a problem and not you. Avoiding confrontation will only make you feel like you are overwhelmed or going crazy. This confusion is presented to you in order to teach you more about yourself and how to take responsibility for your life and your happiness.

During this transit you are apt to be much more interested in mystical and occult philosophies, which may be rewarding and fun; just make sure you don't join groups that try to take away your identity. You so easily give yourself away to your environment and people that you need to keep a sense of independence about you.

Uranus conjunct your sun-sign this transit, hopefully, will help you become more independent, unique and different in a healthy way. This transit can help liberate you and help you step out of your fears to become someone much more confidant and self-assured.This transit can help you create a new you, one that you like and not someone that others want you to be.

Don't look for groups or strange new belief systems to bring you new happiness. You must find happiness within yourself. You must break away from looking for validation from everyone around you and begin to validate yourself from within. Your answers are within you and not with others. Follow good, sound, logical advice from trained professionals and not from know-it-alls who don't have your welfare at heart. Stop looking for others to hold you up. Instead, learn how to trust your own judgment and hold yourself up with pride.

When in doubt, seek professional advice and guidance. Your psychic sensitivity is extremely heightened under this transit, but don't let it scare you. Instead, learn how to harness it and make it work positively for you. Take classes on the paranormal, psychic development, magic, chemistry, painting, sculpture, music, dance, art, or singing. Bring out your hidden talents. Keep the friends that help you stay grounded and who were there for you in the past, because you will gain some very new and unusual friends during this transit and they may deceive you or inspire and teach you. You won't know which till years later.

Keep in mind that if you are psychologically well-adjusted and healthy, you will experience this transit in the most positive way. If you are not, then this transit could bring you havoc and much mental confusion, depression, might even bring to the forefront any emotional or mental disorders that have been buried or ignored for years.

Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius

The other signs that will be challenged with this Uranus/Pisces transit are Gemini, Virgo, and Sagittarius. Uranus will square Gemini and Sagittarius and will oppose Virgo. These signs may experience limitations on their freedoms causing a lot of irritation and the feeling of being severely restricted. These signs may be challenged to learn the lesson of humility and work and service without monetary reward or recognition. They may feel like they have a yoke around their neck or heavy burden or cross forced upon them that they have to bear and they could hate it. These signs may learn from Uranus in Pisces the value and beauty in art, music, classical literature, painting, and dance. They may develop their esthetic sense as well as touch base with their emotional nature.

Taurus, Cancer, Scorpio, Capricorn

The signs that will benefit with this Uranus/Pisces transit are Taurus, Cancer, Scorpio, and Capricorn. Taurus could have more financial help or financial opportunities and maybe even some unusual love experiences. Cancer may have a savior or a knight in shining armor enter into their life to help them or bring them relief. Scorpio could experience unusual emotional encounters with others that help open them up or transforms them in some way. Capricorns will find help, someone to help them with all their work. Aquarians will be quiet while  they lick their wounds and will be glad to have a rest from the challenging Uranus for the next seven years. They have had their share of upset and challenge.

Aries

For the sign of Aries, this 7 year transit of Uranus in Pisces will reside in your 12th house. The best way to handle this would be to make sure you find a lot more quiet time for yourself than you have in the past, because it is time to do more research, meditation, praying, writing and soul searching.  These are not bad things to do, but because you are generally so full of action and energy, you may feel like this is too confining and restrictive.  If so, then do some volunteer work in a hospital or nursing home to best serve this transit in your solar  chart.  It is also wise to seek a Higher Power's (God) help to find answers to some of your life's problems. It may be that only a Higher Power can heal the situations or relationships that have dissolved into a rift, feud or disappeared all together for one reason or another.

For Aries this next 7 years is a time to delve into your inner self to find out who you are and where the truth lies. You can create from a spiritual inspired source during this time, so don't waste this opportunity.  You can be the power behind the thrown regarding many situations and projects.  One note of caution. Expect some karma to come back to you to be worked out during this cycle; some will be good and some may be difficult or it could be all good if you view it on a higher level. It all depends on what kind of seeds you sowed in the last several years.

Aries were you a kind and thoughtful person towards others in your life, home, family or at work? Or were you too busy to take the time to be good to others and those you love? Were you selfish in all the wrong ways? Well now you will have time to learn how to be selfish in all the healthy ways. These next 7 years may feel very lonely, strange or unreal on a lot of levels,  but your experiences will be blessings in disguise, because you learn how to pray and meditate more than you have ever done before in your life. Realize any negative Karma that you encounter, no matter how difficult or hard, is really a good thing in the long run, because it can make you a nicer, better, happier and more spirit filled person. 

Whatever, the good thing is you won't have to take any of the negative stuff with you into the next life if you deal with it properly now.  Don't shy away from difficult matters, but first ask your Higher Power what is the right thing to do and how to do it. You may not be as free and independent as you have been in the past, but this could be a blessing in disguise.

Leos and Libras

For you Leos and Libras this 7 year cycle could see you experiencing some health issues. Perhaps you have run yourself into a physical exhaustive state and now it's time to rest and take care of your body.  Leos and Libras could experience some feet, toe or extremity problems, maybe even some heart repair may be necessary or a new look at how you treat your physical, mental and spiritual health. 

Hopefully, you took good care of your health in these last seven years and you won't have any health problems.  Leos may see some bowel problems from not eating very healthy these last seven years or from nerves or stress. Cut down on eating a lot of red meat if you haven't done so already. Eat healthy and forget those fad diets or fad foods.  This goes for both Leos and Libras. For both Leos and Libras you are apt to have some humbling experiences that take you out of your usual social spotlight and bring you crashing down softly on your knees in some ways. This could make you feel a bit inadequate, shy, quiet or not so flamboyant or airy as usual.

Take more time to be quiet and alone you don't need (an audience) a ton of people around you all the time. Be more thoughtful, empathetic and kind to others. Be more of service to others whenever you can.

It may be time for you Leos and Libras to learn more about vitamin therapy, message, chiropractic and homeopathy and other alternative health care procedures if you have not learned of their importance already in order to help you stay well.

New life situations may keep you Leos and Libras from being the free spirit you have been for these last 7 years. You may find yourself working more, physically, mentally and emotionally. You are apt to be helping someone who needs help or who is sick or confined. Learn how to be a good nurse and don't complain or feel burdened. Being of service and helping others may be your next new 7 year role. Accept it as a gift.  When we help others we wind up helping ourselves.

Aquarians

For you Aquarians this next 7 year cycle may cause you to search for and find a new set of values and what is truly important in your life. You may find out that there is more to life than just money and material possessions. Money and things may not be the answer you thought they were. These next several years may find you searching for happiness or the true meaning in life. 

If you know yourself to be overly stubborn and fixed, resistant to change, then maybe in these next 7 years you will make those monumental changes that you always feared to make. You are going to realize just how short life is. These last 7 years may have found you struggling to keep the status-quo, to preserve what you have worked so hard for. You weren't going to change or relinquish a thing were you?  At least you got to enjoy a lot of your life these last 7 years, while a lot of other people may not have had it so good.

Now it may be your turn to walk the other side of the fence, loss of job, loss of money, loss of important people in your lives, etc. Things may have gone very well for you and your luck may have seemed limitless and abundant. But now things in this 7 year cycle may change and you may not be in the power seat like you once were and this may unnerve you a bit, but remember, all is for our  higher good. 

Aquarians, if you have accumulated a ton of money, then this 7 year cycle could cause you some circumstances where you could lose a ton of money. If you have been broke a long time, then this cycle could bring you some sort of sudden windfall or more money than you have had in a long time.

With Uranus in your solar second house of money, assets, and self-esteem, you could have sudden, unexpected, events change your whole life in how you make and earn your salary and more important how you feel about yourself and your life. Money could pour out of your bank account for sudden and unexpected expenditures and leave you near broke. Life events and circumstances could present you with a big bill and you may wonder how you are going to pay for it. The big financial picture in your life could change completely, totally upside down, for good or worse, big or small.

It all depends on how you handle change and if you are flexible enough, willing enough, to make whatever changes necessary in your life in order for you to proceed onto the next rung of the ladder in your life, in order for you to unfold.  If your money is taken away from you it may be because you need to know who you are without it. If this should happen then this is where you will find the real meaning in your life and you may find the real you.
